How long it takes for EBC trek?

EBC is the short form of Everest base camp. The EBC trek is 12 days trekking from Lukla to Lukla. It takes 8 days to reach the camp and three days to return down. We will return to Kathmandu on 12th day of trekking. Lukla flight is completely dependent on weather condition. Since the airport is small and dangerous, we must wait for a clear sky to take off.

 OUTLINE ITINERARY:

✅Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

✅Day 2: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,850m). Trek to Phakding (2,650m)

✅Day 3: Trek from Phakding (2,650m) to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

✅Day 4: Acclimatization at Namche

✅Day 5: Trek from Namche (3,440 m) to Tengboche (3,855m)

✅Day 6: Trek from Tengboche (3,855m) to Dingboche (4,360m)

✅Day 7: Acclimatization at Dingboche

✅Day 8: Trek from Dingboche (4,360m) to Lobuche (4,930m)

✅Day 9: Trek from Lobuche (4,930m) to EBC (5,364m) and back to Gorak Shep.

✅Day 10: Hike to Kala Patthar(5,555m) viewpoint, trek to Gorak Shep then to Pheriche.

✅Day 11: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

✅Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

✅Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla

✅Day 14: Final Departure

What kind of food are available in Everest region?

Although the Everest region is far from concrete cities, it provides good food including Nepali, Indian, western and local food in tea houses. We can get varieties of food from Lukla to Gorakshep.

Food for breakfast: tea/coffee, bread butter/jelly, omlet, boiled egg, porridge, museli, chapati

Lunch and dinner food items: Nepali thali (rice, lentils, curry, pappad, pickles), burger, sandwich, pizza, french-fries, noodles, momo, spaghetti.

Categories of tea house in Khumbu region

Khumbu is the cold place where heating system is not available in all tea houses. We can get electric bed heater on specific places only. There are three types of tea houses in different villages of Khumbu region.

Budget tea houses: Budget tea house is the simplest tea house where we get twin room with common bathroom. Attached rooms are available in Phakding and Namche even in budget tea house.

Standard tea houses: The standard tea houses are bit advanced with attached room in all destination except in Lobuche and Gorakshep. We can get both twin or double room based on our requirement.

Luxury tea houses: Luxury tea houses are most advanced tea houses where we get more facilities. We get bed heater throughout the trek whereas the attached bathroom is available only up to Dingboche. There are not any attached room on Lobuche and Gorekshep. Thus, we can get bed heater in all places but attached room are limited for particular places.

Best time for EBC trek

The best time for EBC trek is autumn and spring. The months of March, April, May, September, October and November are considered as the best months for trekking to the base camp of Mount Everest. These months are selected as the best months regarding to the weather and temperature. The moderate temperature and clean weather during spring and autumn let us to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of snow-capped peaks.

Dates 2026, 2027 and 2028:

✅ March: 10, 25

✅ April: 01, 07, 15, 20, 25, and 30

✅ May: 05, 10, 15, and 20

✅ September: 20, 27

✅ October: 01, 05, 10, 15, 20, and 28

✅ November: 01, 05, 10, and 15

✅ December: 01, 10, 15, and 25

Who can do Everest base camp trek?

People of all age with good physical and mental health can do Everest base camp trek. Even the beginner with good preparation can do this trek successfully. The major preparation techniques of EBC trek are as follows:

Walking: Walking is the best practice for successful trek. We should walk at least two hours a day before three months of trekking. It makes our body flexible and help us to walk the long distance during the journey to base camp.

Running: Fastest waking is known as running. If we do not have enough time for walking then we can do running for 45 minutes to one hour daily. Running can help you to walk easily on the trekking route.

Walking on stairs than elevator: Walking on steps helps to walk on the ascending trails of trail. It will be best to walk with 10kg bags on the stairs for best preparation of trek.
